Tai Chi for Care Homes

Exercise is important for people of all ages but can be especially beneficial to the elderly, people with the onset of memory loss and physical conditions.

Tai Chi and Qigong exercises and movements over the years has proved to be very positive in improving the overall health and well being of Senior Citizens.

Alan for a number of years has been running Tai Chi sessions across Cornwall for residents in Care and Nursing Homes. The low impact and slow-moving exercises are ideal for the residents who are usually in the seated position. The gentle exercises together with breathing techniques can have a significant effect on both the physical and mental health of the older person. It can also improve coordination, balance, posture, and general mobility.

Alan presently runs sessions at the following Care/Nursing Homes in Cornwall:

  • Roseland Parc in Tregony
  • Perran Bay Care Home in Perranporth
  • Windsor Court Retirement Residence in Newquay

Alan’s overall aim is to help in improving the physical and mental health of Residents and emphasis is always on the Individual in order to modify the exercises/movements for each person.

The sessions are also very suitable for those with restricted movement, onset of Dementia and Alan has worked with people who have suffered strokes and Parkinson’s Disease

The sessions include Qigong exercises, Tai Chi movements, breathing techniques and a modified Tai Chi Form based on the 30 Sun Form. The latter exercise is a combination of individual movements which are slowly practised culminating in a small form which is specifically designed for people with Arthritis. This helps to improve, not only physical aspects but also memory retention and calming the mind. (they also have fun too!)

Alan has also started running sessions at local Retirement Homes which is are suitable for residents in both the standing and sitting positions.

If any Care Home/ Nursing Home/Retirement Homeowner or manager is interested in including the CWC Tai Chi programme in their Home or requires any further information, then please contact us
